VMWARE SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR Full Time
Job Description
Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain a Security Clearance for access to classified information. An Active Secret Clearance is desired.
JOB DETAILS:
Our client’s ISD Platforms Sector is seeking a VMWare Horizon’s 7 expert to augment on-site staff for a 6-month period. The Systems Administrator will demonstrate expert level hands on VMware Horizon View 7.0 rollout experience while providing support to on-site IT staff in preparing for a rollout of a new Horizon View 7.0 ‘just-in-time’ environment. The individual will bring a level of expertise and advise on optimal configuration settings utilizing VMware’s User Environment Manager (UEM) for user profile management, Application Volumes (App Vol) to virtualize applications (where applicable) as well as working knowledge of a Cisco HX Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI). Advising on performance tuning settings and establishing operational metric tracking utilizing vRealize Operations Manager is also within scope. This project will include a software refresh of a current VDI environment operating on Simplivity implementation. Close team coordination is also a requirement.
Position Scope/Job Functions
Possess expert technical depth with the suite for VMWare Horizon 7 tools.
Maintain an expert level of knowledge with the release of new versions of these VMWare tools and plan/scope upgrades with minimal user impact.
Provide support to on-site IT staff in preparing for a roll out of a new Horizon View 7.0 environment
Develop and provide metrics to track systems? status, performance, capacity, and forecasting system capacity requirements / improvements.
Tunes platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.
This position will maintain frequent contact with multiple IT support teams and end users to maintain communications related to compliance, problem resolution, and associated services
Review and participate in the department’s change management program. Report and provide updates as required to the department’s change management board.
Contributor to the development of operations, management, integration & security requirements in alignment with Laboratory policy and fulltime IT Staff.
Perform all related duties as assigned.
Skills: Required
– Excellent customer service skills and exceptional customer facing skills are required
– Excellent communication (both oral and writing) and organizational skills
– Demonstrated expertise with the VMware Horizon View environment including Connection Servers, pools, vCenter, thin/zero clients utilizing the ‘Just-in-time’ architecture desktop pools, including but not limited to:
– Using VMware’s User Environment Manager (UEM) for user profile management
– Using App Volumes to virtualize their clinical and office applications
– Knowledge of ESX cluster running on a Cisco HX HCI cluster
– Expert ability to install, configure, optimize, and maintain VMware Horizon View 7.x
– Expert hands on administration experience with VMware tools including ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, vRealize Operations Manager and other virtualization technologies and concepts.
– Possesses a deep understanding of VMware core components and their relation to storage and networking, and be proficient in datacenter design methodologies.
– Ability to document processes and procedures.
– Ability to coordinate efforts with other technology teams including Desktop Engineering, Networking and Client Services.
Skills: Preferred
VMWare Certifications
Experience with VDI Assessment Tools such as Liquidware Stratusphere
Scripting experience as well as experience with task automation.
Education/Professional Certifications/Substituting Off-Set
1. MS OR BS and at least 1 Certification.
2. At least 8 years of applicable experience.
The selected candidate will be assigned to a specific technical team, under the direction of the ISD Enterprise Technology and Tools Sector. At a minimum, candidates must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
